Last week Honeywell announced a new line of AR devices for industrial workers which the company is calling Insight Intelligent Wearables. These headsets respond to voice commands and display data on a small screen that sits just outside the workers field of vision—but reads like a 7” screen. By now you can guess that it also displays live data, documents, step-by-step instructions, safety information, and pipes in remote experts when necessary.
If it sounds familiar, that’s because it’s based on RealWear’s HMT-1Z1 headset. Honeywell and RealWear have inked a deal to co-brand the headset—as well as its sibling the HMT-1—for sale globally. Honeywell is also pairing the headset with its own Movilizer platform, part of the wider Connected Plant technology ecosystem.
RealWear now stands to benefit from the wide reach of Honeywell’s Fortune-100-sized distribution infrastructure.
Notably, the HMT-1Z1 has been certified as an intrinsically safe device, making it safe for use in potentially explosive places like oil refineries or gas plants. RealWear says their device is currently the only such AR product on the market.
